About the Report
In 2024, electricity generation in Latin America and the Caribbean increased by 5.5%, driven primarily by the expansion of wind and solar photovoltaic capacity, along with a greater contribution from natural gas in the region’s energy mix. The countries that contributed most significantly to this growth, in order of impact, were Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Colombia. Electricity generation in the region continues to be affected by climate seasonality, reflecting its heavy reliance on renewable sources, particularly hydropower, solar, and wind energy.
